Math – Place Values to the Hundreds Place
(www.aaamath.com)
Worksheet from Math Skillbuilders (<-- I love this workbook and want one for Yule! I am borrowing it from the library right now and copying pages... is that legal?)
Today was a huge improvement over yesterday. The girls whipped right through sheet the greater than and less then worksheet and the hundred place worksheet.
Science- www.eekoworld.com Coco found this website yesterday at the library. It features lots of games and activities promoting recycling… Does that mean she was paying attention? Its from PBS and it lets you create an animal and walk through your "house" learning about conserving and recycling and reusing. I even played on it for 15 minutes!
Social Studies – 5 sentences or statements about what we learned. We read through our fun fact booklet and the text book during lunch. The girls really liked learning about the civil rights movement and Mimi was fascinated by Helen Keller. When Lola got home from cheerleading camp, I had the younger girls tell her what we had learned about Alabama. It was great to see when they had actually retained. Lola then wrote out her sentences with much more detail.
Reading – the books were not at the library yesterday. After class time, Coco and Mimi took turns reading stories to Fifi.
Spelling- Write spelling words with definitions We did so much better on time. Each girl wrote their spelling words and a simple definition while I made lunch. We did our spelling sentences for the week outloud. Mimi seems to retain more outloud vs when she has to write something out. Lola wants to play secretary next week so she can write down some of the wacky sentences we came up with.
Language Arts – Noun vs. Adjective Worksheet
(http://www.teach-nology.com/worksheets/language_arts/adjectives/ornoun/) We used the white board to talk about 6 parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjective, adverbs, pronouns, and proper nouns. We took notes in our notebooks and did a worksheet identifying nouns. This was the bulk of our time for the morning. We talked alot about how nouns can be turned into adjectives by where they are in the sentences. Their silly sentence of the day ~ Lola's sad numbers sat quietly while she colored.
Foreign Language- ABCs in sign
(DVD- Signing Time ABC) The girls both enjoyed the video. Even though it is made for preschoolers on PBS, they sang along!
Extra- Write Thank You Notes for Melinda and Jenn!!
After yesterday, I figured starting the day with an art like project would help relieve some of the tension. I think it worked! We love our packages from both women. I am so grateful for my friends!
